70 goals scored in 4 of Buganda’s Ggombolola Cup
Week 4 of Buganda’s Ggombolola Cup football tournament has witnessed 37 games played across 7 counties/Ssazas of Busiro, Buddu, Buvuma, Bulemeezi, Kyaggwe, Ssingo and Kyaddondo with 70 goals scored.
The eventful week started with mid-week action on 14th February as all the 5 teams in Busiro’s Group A converged at Trinity College Nabingo for their games. This was followed by the launch of Kaggo Cup (Kyaddondo) on Thursday and Muteesa Cup (Mawogola) on Friday, before wide spread action was witnessed over the weekend.
Kyaddondo opened their competition schedule at Lukuli Nanganda as hosts Mutuba III Makindye drew 0:0 against Ssaabagabo Lufuka, while Ssingo were the other new commers on the schedule and played six games in a gala format at Bukomero Church of Uganda Secondary School in Kiboga.
Action in Buddu was also as entertaining as it witnessed 4 games were played in the Kintu (Lwengo) Group in a gala format. Mutuba VII Kigemuzi Lwengo, Mutuba XII Kkingo and Mutuba XIII Kisekka qualified to the round of 16. Bulemeezi played 10 games across its groups, while Buvuma continued its campaign with Musale Sejja losing to Mumyuka Bugaya 1:2.
Week 5 of the competition is expected to be busier as three more counties/Masaza shall be playing their 1st games to bring the tally of Masaza to 12. Mawogola’s Muteesa Cup is scheduled to start on Sat,24-Feb-24 in Mateete; Mawokota’s Kayima Cup on Sat,24-Feb-24 at the Buwama Ssaza Grounds; while Butambala will host the Minister of Youth Sports and the Arts on Friday 23-Feb-24 in Ngando as Katambala Cup begins.
Ggombolola Cup / Omupiira gw’amagombolola mu Buganda is a sports competition by the Buganda Kingdom played amongst the 175 sub-counties under their respective 18 counties and named after the official title of the Ssaza/County chief.
